Monica Kelsey is one of the nation’s leading voices on infant protection, crisis intervention, and Safe Haven legislation. As the Founder and CEO of Safe Haven Baby Boxes, she has transformed her own extraordinary life story into a movement that has saved the lives of vulnerable newborns and provided hope to parents in crisis.

Monica’s journey began before she was born. Conceived in rape, she was abandoned shortly after birth and adopted into a loving family. Years later, after serving in the U.S. Navy and working as a firefighter and paramedic, Monica discovered the circumstances surrounding her birth. A trip to South Africa introduced her to the concept of a “baby box,” inspiring her to bring the life-saving technology to the United States. In 2015, she founded Safe Haven Baby Boxes with the mission of ending illegal infant abandonment through education, advocacy, a 24-hour crisis hotline, and the installation of Safe Haven Baby Boxes across the country.
